Thanks to everyone who came out and ate at the Pizza Ranch and those who sent a check even though they couldn't come and eat! We had a great night and received over $700 in tips! No surprise, we will be serving again at Pizza Ranch in Waukee on September 27.
Eat at the Pizza Ranch in Waukee and help children in Africa!
Our team will be working at the Pizza Ranch at 448 University in Waukee on
Wednesday, July 28.
We will recieve a percentage of the sales from that night and will be able to ask for donations and keep any tips we are given as we bus tables and serve. Money received will go toward the building materials we will use in Uganda at a Watoto site.
God is Good!
We had a great month of June fundraising for our Watoto Trip to Uganda in 2011. Right now our focus is on raising the necessary funds for building materials. Our next opportunity is on July 28. Our team members will be working at the Pizza Ranch in Waukee from 5 pm to 9 pm. We will bus tables, serve and clean up. We will be able to keep any tips we receive for our trip and be able to ask for donations that night. Please come and eat at the Pizza Ranch that night to support our team.
Thanks to all who donated items for the Rummage Sale, made baked goods as well as everyone who shopped and made purchases. Our sales totaled over $1,200!
Our booth at the Big Daddy Weave Concert on June 13 collected almost $300 in donations while giving out free popcorn. Thanks to all who donated and worked in the booth at the concert and at Funtastic Days.
We have earned over $200 through can redemption. Thank you to those who have given us your cans and bottles. Every nickel helps! You can drop off your cans &/or bottles (bagged in plastic, please) in the wooden bin next to the dumpster on the east side of the church.
We have some other big ideas in the planning stages but most of all, we need your prayers. Our trip won't be possible without your prayer support.

Watoto Trip to Uganda in 2011
Grimes UMC has had a long relationship with the Watoto organization and we have been privileged to host one of their choirs in our church many times. We are in the process of forming a group of individuals who will travel to Uganda in the spring of 2011 to work on a building project for Watoto. The group will likely build a classroom or housing for teachers. If you are interested in making the trip, please contact Shellie at shellie@grimesumc.com.
Each member of our group has made a personal pledge toward their expenses for the trip. In addition the team will need to raise the necessary funds for building materials and travel expenses. Other fundraisers are in the planning stage.
Watch this site for updates about our journey and information about fundraisers. We tried to schedule a concert with their US choir for this fall but the schedule is full at this time. The choir will be holding a concert at the Norwalk United Methodist Church in Norwalk, Iowa on Wednesday, October 27 at 6 pm.

So in 1994, Watoto Childcare Ministries was birthed out of our local church – Watoto Church. Watoto provides holistic, residential care for orphaned and vulnerable children with the core vision to rescue a Child, raise a Leader and rebuild a Nation.
Through the generosity of people from around the world, Watoto has given life and HOPE to many children. ‘Villages of Hope’ with homes, schools and medical clinics have been built. And a Baby Watoto introduced in 2007.
And in 2008, the vision has been extended to war-affected Gulu (Northern Uganda) and we’ve embraced the plight of the vulnerable women in the Nation.
As an addition to the ministries within Watoto Church, Living Hope will operate alongside Watoto and has initially committed to transforming and restoring the lives of 1,200 women in Kampala and 900 women in Gulu.
Many people from Australia, Canada, Europe, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Singapore, the UK and USA have sponsored children. Today, more than 1,400 children have hope and a future, growing up with families that love and value them. Some of them have already moved on and are leading productive, independent lives. Many of them are attending university. And some are just beginning their new lives as members of our Watoto family.
Thank you for our your continued support of Watoto.
