The Home Groups at Grimes UMC exist to see God’s people “grow in their salvation” (1 Peter 2:2). These weekly gatherings are designed to bring people who are pursuing closeness with God close to each other. The primary purpose and distinguishing characteristic of Home Groups is the focus on becoming the people God has called us to be. This becoming requires submitting ourselves to being held accountable to growth. Growth necessitates being stretched as we seek to “spur one another on toward love and good deeds.” (Hebrews 10:24). People seldom slip into good habits or growth, so we want to create a climate in which growth is encouraged, and even expected for members of Home groups. These groups are places where doing and becoming are the primary objective – learning and knowing are welcomed side effects. There are other areas in the life of GUMC that have learning as its priority- Home Groups is not one of them.
