What’s Happening!

Upcoming Events Can Be Found Below:

UMCOR Helping Texas
Don’t forget to bring your packed buckets in to be sent to Texas with the relief efforts through UMCOR. We are collecting relief supply kits now through Wednesday, September 13th! For information on what to put in the supply kits, click here. We will be sending the cleaning kits. You and your family can pack up as many buckets as you want to and bring them to the church. We will be collecting them in the classroom across from the restrooms in that second hallway (the room where we usually collect VBC and One Starry Night supplies) now through next Wednesday and then we will get them to the conference and they’ll get them to Texas where they are needed.
Pastor Ben will be needing a truck and possibly another driver and truck depending on how many we have to help him deliver them on Thursday morning, September 14th

If anyone can help with that, please let us know!
If you are interested in being trained with a team to go down and help, click here for more information on the training through UMCOR.
WNL Starts Next Week!
September 13th – Wednesday Night Live starts back up next week with supper at 5:30pm followed by classes for all ages.
September 20th is our actual anniversary date and it happens to also be a Wednesday Night so we thought it’d be fun to have an 80’s theme night for WNL that night. So come dressed in 80’s theme and let’s celebrate together!

Grief Share Ministry
For those of you who are dealing with the loss of a loved one, we are once again offering a Grief Share class this fall. We would love for you to participate and let us help you on your journey from mourning to joy. Grief Share will meet on Wednesdays at 6:15pm in the conference room starting on September 13th.

New WNL Class
We have one additional class available on Wednesday nights, starting September 13th, this Fall. James Campbell will guide us through the book The Practice of the Presence of God. In the class, we’ll explore the truth of God’s beauty, what life is like when we are aware of God’s presence at all times, and the effects of living more by the Spirit and less by the flesh. The class will be presented in a descriptive, rather than prescriptive way, hopefully inspiring you to deepen your relationship with God. Here’s a brief description of the book: Millions have learned to live in the presence of God through this simple book written by a humble cook in a monastery. Amid his pots and pans, Brother Lawrence became so noted for his serenity and joy while he worked at the most menial kitchen tasks, that cardinals and theologians came to see him to learn his secret. This book contains teachings and letters from Brother Lawrence that can inspire us to follow his example. Sign up for this class in the narthex.

Men’s Golf Outing

On Saturday, September 16th, we’ll have a 4-man best shot golf outing for men. Seven tee off times have been reserved, starting at 8am, for a total of 28 men. The cost is $50 per person for 18 holes including a cart. We will draw for door prizes after playing. Please contact Denny Knudtson to reserve a spot.
Faith Freezer Cooking Day
On Saturday, September 16th, the Faith Freezer ladies will be cooking ham balls, starting at 9am. Everyone is invited to come help prepare the meals and stock the Faith Freezer.

GUMC’s 30th Anniversary

We’re celebrating 30 years of Mission: Our Family Working the Fields of God Together! So we’ll have an Anniversary Party on September 17th with an outdoor worship service at 10am followed by lunch. We will be providing the meat, please bring a side dish or dessert to share.

Sunday School

On September 24th, Adult Sunday School classes will start back up during the Learning Hour from 9:45-10:45am.
Three adult classes will be offered during The Learning Hour:
  • Pastor Ben will continue his What the Bible is All About class, covering a book of the Bible each week, picking up where they left off with the book of Acts. This is a great class to jump into at any time.
  • Tom Mowrer will be leading a study called By Signs and Wonders about how the Holy Spirit grows the Church. The focus of this book is to provide laity and Christian leaders with a critically important insight in how to more effectively evangelize a lost and dying world.
  • Jeff Hendricks will lead a class called This is Our Time by Trevon Wax.  As faithful witnesses to Christ, Trevin writes, we must identify the longing behind society’s most cherished myths (what is good, true, beautiful), expose the lie at the heart of these myths (what is false and damaging), and show how the gospel tells a better story – one that exposes the lie but satisfies the deeper longing.
The info and sign up sheets for all of these classes are in the narthex.
